Bill McCranie Retires from the
United States Army Reserve
Weyman
W. (Bill) McCranie, Jr., a senior shareholder of Wright, Green, P.C. in
Mobile, retired from the United States Army Reserve, after a 30 year career,
during a ceremony held at the headquarters of the 350th Civil Affairs
Command, at Corry Station, Florida, on June 6, 2009 (the anniversary of
D-Day from World War II). Bill was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal for his
service and presented with, among other things, a ceremonial Army Officer’s
Saber, from his family.
The ceremony was followed by a retirement party
held at the yacht club on Pensacola Naval Air Station. Bill began his Army
career at Fort Bragg,
North Carolina, in 1979, and served on active duty for 4 ½ years, before
going to law school, and has been a member of the Army Reserve since 1983.
The highlights of his career came when he deployed to Iraq in 2004 with the
350th Civil Affairs Command, and received the Bronze Star Medal for that
service, and when he later served as the commander of the 358th Civil
Affairs Brigade, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before returning to the
350th Civil Affairs Command, and completing his military career in
Pensacola. Judge Maney, the Commanding General of the 350th from around 1997
to 2001, attended the ceremony.
