Mr. Denniston is a font of information on many
aspects of the history of Mobile. His father, Harold S. Denniston, was in
the business of mining tin when Robert was born in La Paz, Bolivia and
returned to become the founder and president of The American National Bank &
Trust of Mobile. That institution ultimately merged into what is known today
as AmSouth Bank. Robert was aboard his father’s yacht, "Sunshine, " when it
won the silver cup for the St. Petersburg to Havana Race in 1931. His
hobbies include distance running and walking and reading historical
literature.
